History
The Institute of the History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1954 . The Institute is located in the center of Warsaw in the Staszice Palace opposite the Copernicus Monument . In the mid-1970s, it was renamed the Institute of the History of Science, Education and Technology, but since 1994 its name has been reduced to the current Institute of the History of Science. In 2011, the Institute was named after Ludwik and Alexander Birkermaerov.
The Institute consists of two departments - the Department of the History of Social Sciences and the History of Education (sector: the history of social sciences, the history of education, the history of scientific organizations) and the Department of the History of exact, natural sciences and technologies (sectors: the history of exact sciences and technology, history of medicine, history of chemistry and pharmaceuticals, the history of mathematics.
