Youth and the beginning of service

He was born on February 25, 1901 in the village of Sofievka (now Kakhovsky district, Kherson region ) into a peasant family. Ukrainian. Member of the CPSU since 1927. He studied at a parish school , and from 10 years old, in view of the difficult financial situation of his parents, he began to work in the village for hire. Already much later he graduated from eight classes of high school.

In November 1922 he was drafted into the Red Army . He was enrolled as a cadet at the 47th Nikolaev infantry courses, but in February 1923 they were disbanded and a cadet Gorobets was enrolled in the Odessa infantry school, which he graduated in 1925. Since August 1925 - platoon commander of the 45th Infantry Regiment of the 15th Sivash Infantry Division of the Ukrainian Military District ( Kherson ), since October he served in the 44th Infantry Regiment of this division ( Nikolaev ): platoon commander, assistant company commander, company commander, commander battalion , head of the regimental school. Since January 1934 - the commander of the battalion of the 43rd Infantry Regiment of the same division ( Kirovograd ). In December 1936 he went to study.

In July 1937 he graduated from the Shot courses. Higher rifle tactical training courses for the officers of the infantry Shot . Since January 1938 - assistant commander of the 85th Infantry Regiment of the 62nd Infantry Division of the Kiev Military District ( Bila Tserkva ). Since February 1940, he was an officer at the collection point of the command staff at the Military Council of the Leningrad Military District . From July 1940, he was deputy commander of the 219th rifle regiment of the 14th rifle division of the Baltic Special Military District ( Rakvere , Estonian SSR ), and since September, deputy commander of the 171st rifle regiment of the 182nd rifle division ( Petsere ).

In the battles of World War II from June 1941. The regiment entered the battle at the end of June as part of the 22nd Rifle Corps of the 27th Army of the North-Western Front near Porkhov , defending the Pskov-Ostrovsky fortified area . Already on July 9 he was surrounded. From July 12 to 17, part of the regiment of the regiment fought out of the encirclement and, as a result, in the vicinity of the Dno station, joined forces with the 11th Army . Soon Major Gorobets was appointed commander of the 171st Infantry Regiment, who further fought under Staraya Russa as part of this army. In the battle on July 28, Major Gorobets was wounded, but soon returned to duty. And in the battle on January 22, 1942 he was wounded a second time. After being discharged from the hospital in February 1942, he was appointed with promotion the deputy commander of the 182nd Infantry Division . In May 1942, a promising commander with combat experience was sent to study.

In November 1942 he completed the crash course of the Higher Military Academy named after K. E. Voroshilov (the academy was then evacuated in Ufa ). Since December 1942 - commander of the 43rd separate ski brigade of the 1st shock army . Since April 1943 - deputy commander of the 53rd Guards Rifle Division of the 14th Guards Rifle Corps . In July-December 1943, he again attended courses at the K.E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy.

From December 1943 he fought as deputy commander, and from February 1944 until the end of the war, as commander of the 337th Infantry Division . At the head of the division he fought on the 2nd Ukrainian and 3rd Ukrainian fronts.

The commander of the 337th Infantry Division ( 27th Army , 2nd Ukrainian Front ) Colonel T.P. Gorobets showed great skill and personal heroism during the Proskurovsky-Chernivtsi and Uman-Botoshansk offensive operations. March 5, 1944 skillfully organized a breakthrough of the enemy’s defense in the area of ​​the village of Chizhovka, Zvenigorod district, Cherkasy region . Pursuing the enemy, the division forced the Gorny Tikich , Southern Bug , and Dniester rivers . For fourteen days, the division marched 280 km to the west, defeating parts of the German 198th , 34th and 75th infantry divisions, 16th and 17th tank divisions, and a number of separate enemy battalions. The enemy left 5,640 soldiers and officers, more than 130 tanks and self-propelled guns, 165 guns, 2,909 vehicles, 200 motorcycles, 1,350 horses on the battlefield. The division liberated 68 settlements during this time, retained combat effectiveness, and continued to carry out combat missions assigned to it.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 17, 1944, for the exemplary command of a rifle division and personal courage and heroism shown to Colonel Taras Pavlovich Gorobets, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 1782).

Equally worthy of the division and commanded after this feat. The division distinguished itself in the Iasi-Chisinau , Bucharest-Arad , Debrecen , Budapest , West Carpathian , Balaton and Vienna operations. During his command, the division was awarded the orders of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 2nd degree (02/26/1944) and the Red Banner (04/08/1944), it was noted more than 10 times in the orders of the Supreme Commander .

Post-War Service

After the war he continued to serve in the army. He commanded the same division withdrawn from Austria to the Carpathian Military District . From September 1946 to February 1949 - commander of the 9th separate rifle brigade of the Kiev military district . In 1950, he graduated from advanced training courses for commanders of rifle divisions at the MV Frunze Military Academy . Since February 1950 - commander of the 16th Separate Guards Rifle Brigade of the East Siberian Military District ( Irkutsk ). Since January 1952 - commander of the 45th Infantry Division in the Northern Military District ( Murmansk and Pechenga District ). In August 1953, Major General T.P. Gorobets was dismissed due to illness.

He lived in Kiev . He died on April 2, 1961. He was buried at the Lukyanovsky military cemetery .

He had three sons, all three became military lawyers. One of them, Vitaly Tarasovich Gorobets (born 1946), rose to the position of Chairman of the District Military Court of the North Caucasus Military District , Major General of Justice , Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation . [one]
