Service History

Asbestos was laid down on July 20, 1943 on the slipway of the Morton Engineering shipyard, launched on November 22, 1943 , and was accepted into the fleet on June 16, 1944 . July 9 arrived in Halifax , from where he went to serve in Bermuda .

During the war years, the corvette accompanied numerous convoys: on August 21, he sailed from St. John to escort his first convoy HXF.307 as part of the escort group C-2. It remained until the end of the war; the only commander was Lieutenant (from January 1, 1945, Lieutenant Commander) J. Cuthbert.

July 8, 1945 removed from the fleet and transferred to Sorel-Tresi. In 1947 it was sold to a private company in Panama as a merchant ship. On February 13, 1949 , it crashed off the coast of Cuba, but it was soon lifted from the bottom and towed to New Orleans, where it was scrapped in March of that year.
