Professional career
Fonfara made his debut in the professional ring in June 2006, in Poland, in the second middleweight title. Then he moved to the United States, and all subsequent fights spent there.
The fifth match was lost on points to the Ecuadorian, Eberto Medina. In July 2008. lost by knockout in the second round, to the American, Derrick Findlay (11-2).
On June 26, 2009, he knocked out Skylet Tomposn (11-3) in the second round, and won the US title according to the WBF, in the second middle weight. Later, a positive test for steroids was revealed at Fonfara, and the fight was declared invalid.
In April 2010, Andrzej won the WBC youth world title by knocking out Roger Cantrol (15-1) in the fourth round. On May 20, 2011, Andrzej knocked out in the 7th round of the Canadian, Anthony Russell (16-2-1), and won the WBO NABO light heavyweight title.

On November 16, 2012, in the fight for the IBO title, Fonfara met with Tommy Carpensi . Championship fight with Adonis Stevenson 1
On May 24, 2014, he met with WBC World Champion Adonis Stevenson . Already in the first round, Fonfara was knocked down after a blow from Stevenson to the left, but was not very shocked and managed to continue the fight. In the second round, Fonfara fully recovered and already delivered several good hits. Then the fight was held at an average pace, Fonfara mostly went ahead, and Stevenson worked on counterattacks and looked a little better. In the fifth round, Stevenson struck a heavy blow to the left of the liver, after which Fonfare was again counted down by a knockdown. Meanwhile, the Pole continued to move forward, and in the ninth round he himself knocked down Stevenson with a heavy blow to the right. Further, the battle took place with varying success and, according to the results of twelve rounds, the judges gave the victory to Stevenson with a score of 115-110 twice and 116-109. Fonfara was the first of the last thirteen rivals to be defeated by Adonis, who lasted the entire distance of the battle.

On April 18, 2015, Fonfara defeated former WBC middleweight champion, star Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Chavez was a favorite in the battle, but Fonfara confidently pressed Chavez and at the end of the ninth round sent the Mexican knocked down. For the first time in his boxing career, Chavez was knocked down. Chavez refused to continue the fight and Fonfara inflicted an early defeat by technical knockout, refusing to continue the fight. After this victory, Fonfara expressed a desire to revenge with Adonis Stevenson.

Fight with Chad Dawson
March 4, 2017 met with Chad Dawson . The American won the first six rounds - due to the advantage in speed and more accurate combinations of three minutes, he was taken into account. Closer to the 7th round, however, the functional of Chad began to fail, after which Fonfara began to roll. In the 9th round, the Pole managed to dump the enemy on the floor of the ring, and in the first seconds of the final, 10th, to finish off the shocked Dawson. Fonfara immediately began to miss almost all the attacks of the champion on the left. Already in the first round, Andrzej was on the floor and with great difficulty withstood the fierce attack of Adonis before the gong. In the second three-minute, Stevenson continued to shake the Pole’s head with smashing hits. Fonfara looked completely helpless, inexorably approaching a knockout, but the referee saved him from a heavy defeat and intervened, stopping the beating. TKO.
