Biography

A.N. Lyavdansky was born in the village of Yuryevo now Smolevichi district of Minsk region . In 1922 he graduated from the Smolensk branch of the Moscow Archaeological Institute . Since 1927, a member of the historical and archaeological commission of Inbelkult , head of the archeology department of the Belarusian State Museum . Since 1931, A.N. Lyavdansky was a scientific secretary and head of the archeology section of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, at the same time an assistant professor at BSU .

In 1937 he was arrested and executed in Minsk. Rehabilitated in 1958 [1] .

Scientific activity

A. N. Lyavdansky is the organizer of systematic and systematic archaeological research on the territory of the BSSR . Explored Zaslavl , Vitebsk , Orsha , Smolensk , Polotsk , Borisov and other cities and regions. He gave the first and most complete historical topography of the ancient Polotsk.
