Biography

Louise Kensit was born on July 31, 1877 in the city of Burgersdorp in South Africa. From 1891 to 1899 she attended college in Port Elizabeth . In 1902, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from the South African College in Cape Town . After the death of the botanist Harry Bolus in 1911, Louise became the curator of the herbarium at Cape Town University. In 1912 she married the youngest son of Harry Bolus, Frank. In 1920, Louise Bolus was elected a member of the South African Royal Society. In 1955, Bolus retired.

For a long time Louise Bolus studied the flora of South Africa, specialized in orchid , heather , iris and aise plants. Several times she traveled to study the herbariums of Europe - in London , Uppsalu , Vienna .

Harriet Margaret Louise Bolus passed away on April 5, 1970 in Cape Town.

The main herbarium, collected by Louise Bolus, is kept in the Botanical Department of the University of Cape Town (BOL).
