Description
Echostar 16 was developed by Space Systems Loral based on the LS-1300 platform. [3] The mass of the satellite is 6258 kg. As a payload, it carries 32 Ku-band transponders . The satellite is expected to last at least 15 years.
The Last Pictures
Creative Time created and put a kind of message in a bottle into orbit on EchoStar 16. The ceramic disc, created by the artist Trevor Paglen, entitled "The Last Pictures" has two sides. One contains a hundred black and white photographs selected by the artist in accordance with his vision of the modern history of mankind.
On the second side there is information about the start time encrypted in the form of a map of the starry sky at the time of launch, on which the stars, pulsars and active galactic nuclei are applied. For decoding, it also depicts the Earth and the Moon with the period of their rotation, ultrafine fission of the hydrogen atom and simple geometric relationships as keys. [four]
