Biography
Leonid Glebov was born on September 20, 1913 in the city of Pavlovsk (now the Voronezh Region ) in a working-class family. In 1930 he graduated from the school factory apprenticeship . In 1934 - 1937 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1940 he was again called up to the army and in the same year he graduated from the Odessa Infantry School. From June 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In 1942 he graduated from the courses " Shot ". By September 1943, Captain Leonid Glebov was Chief of Staff of the 989th Infantry Regiment of the 226th Infantry Division of the 60th Army of the Central Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper [1] .
Having organized the work of the headquarters, Glebov often stayed in the battalions on the front line, carried the units into the attack. When, during one of the battles, the calculation of the easel machine gun failed, Glebov replaced the machine gunner and took an active part in repelling the German counterattack. During the crossing of the Dnieper River to the north of Kiev, Glebov organized and ensured the forcing of the river by regimental units. He died in battle on September 26, 1943. He was buried in the village Novoselki Vyshgorodsky district, Kiev region of Ukraine [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, Captain Leonid Glebov was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown." He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
