Sports career

Clubs

Milagros Cabral began her playing career in 1993 at the Los Cahorros Club [1] , and she signed her first international contract in 1997 with the Japanese Pioneer Red Wings. Since 2001, she spent two seasons as part of the Spanish club from Burgos , with whom she twice entered the quarterfinals of the Champions League and the final of the Queen's Cup of Spain , in 2003 she became a bronze medalist of the national championship [2] . In the 2003/2004 season she played in the Italian Modena [3] , and after the Olympic Games in Athens she joined the Khabarovsk Nugget . In the 2004-2005 Russian Championship, her team took 5th place, not reaching the Final Four a bit, in the decisive third match of the quarterfinal series, they lost two victories to Balakovo NPP with a score of 2: 3. During the dramatic fifth installment, which ended with a score of 17:19, Mila, as Cabral was called in Russia, was injured by the Achilles tendon and was unable to finish the match [4] .

In 2006, playing in Puerto Rico for the “Leonas de Ponce”, she entered the symbolic national team team. In the 2006/07 season, she played for Ikaro ( Alaro ) in Spain and helped the club from Mallorca enter the strongest division - the Super League. In 2008, she was recognized as the most valuable player in the regular season and the final stage of the Puerto Rico championship, which ended with the victory of her team “Pinkin de Corozal” [5] . In the same year she became the most productive player in the championship of South Korea [6] .

Team

Milagros Cabral is one of the most prominent representatives of the generation, who are associated with the main achievements of the Dominican Republic national team at the beginning of the XXI century.

Since 1994, she played for the country's junior national team, in 1998 she spent the first matches in the national team, playing at the Central American and Caribbean Games and the World Cup in Japan - the first world forum for the Dominican Republic team after a 20-year break. In total, she participated in four world championships.

Along with Anneris Vargas and Prisilla Rivera, she participated in two Olympic Games - in Athens 2004 and London 2012 . In Athens, Cabral has become the most productive player on her team. Her team, being a debutant of the Olympic competitions, could not reach the quarter finals, but was marked by a sensational victory with a score of 3: 2 over rivals from the USA [7] . According to the results of 2004, Cabral, who scored 21 points in that match, was recognized at home as the best volleyball player of the year. At the Games in London, she served as captain of the Caribbean team, which reached the quarter-finals.

Milagros Cabral was recognized as the most valuable player in the Central American and Caribbean Games (2002) and the Pan American Cup (2003) [8] . In 2009, as a member of the national team, she became the champion of the NORCECA Confederation and won the bronze medal of the Big Champion Cup in Japan . In December 2009, the Hoy newspaper named Cabral the best athlete in the country over the past ten years [9] . After the Olympic Games in London, she announced her retirement in the national team. Over the years, she held 389 matches for the national team [10] .
