History
The first settlement on the site of the present Pikinyi arose even during the time of the Gauls , in 1895 a burial place from the time of the Gallo-Romans was discovered here. In the X-XI centuries it was known under the names Pinquigniacum, Pinconii castrum, Pinchiniacum, then Pinkinei and Pecquigny.
In 942, a meeting between Duke William I of Normandy and Count Arnulf of Flanders took place in Pikigny, who at that time challenged control of northern France. After peace talks, the Duke of Normandy was assassinated by order of Arnulf, and this event went down in French history as an "ambush in Pikigny."
At the beginning of the XIV century, Pikigny acquired the status of a commune. On August 29, 1475, the kings of France, Louis XI and England, Edward IV signed a peace treaty that drew a line under the Hundred Years War - the king of France agreed to pay ransom to IV in exchange for his rejection of claims to the French throne.
