Biography
Champion of Europe among juniors (1980), recognized as the best goalkeeper of the tournament. He began his sporting career in the team “Latvijas Berz” Riga. In 1981-1989 he played for the Dynamo club (Riga), in 1990-1991 he played for the Falcon ( Kiev ). Silver medalist at the 1988 USSR Championship. In total in the major league he played 231 matches. After the collapse of the USSR, he played for the Latvian teams “Latvijas zelts” (1992-1993) and “Alianse” (1996).
Champion of the 1988 Winter Olympics. Silver medalist of the Canada Cup 1987 . In total, he played 10 matches in the national team of the Soviet Union.
He was a coach of the goalkeepers of the national team of Latvia, as well as (in 2007) the Novokuznetsk Metallurg .
