Story

1916 , Paris. Colonel Alexei Alekseevich Kromov ( Vladimir Vdovichenkov ) becomes the military attache of the Russian Empire in France. Its main task is to supply weapons to the Russian army.

After the abdication of Nicholas II from the throne and the October Revolution of 1917, the bank account of Count Alexei Alekseevich Kromov in the Bank of France included the astronomical amount - 250 million rubles in gold, allocated for military orders and supplies. When the Empire collapsed and the Civil War broke out in Russia, diplomatic relations between Russia and France were interrupted.

Count Kromov, being in Paris, could easily have appropriated these inherited amounts. Moreover, the War Department, which he led, ceased to exist, and it was he who was the only custodian and manager of this money - only his signature was significant - Kromov. However, Alexey Alekseevich did not know how to trade his conscience, and words such as “Officer Honor” and “Patriotism” were his personal Banner.

On the outskirts of Paris, he runs a small household for poor food, wears costumes and shoes, but he has not spent a penny or a franc on himself from a bank account.

Numerous compatriots of Count Kromov (monarchists, anarchists, Socialist-Revolutionaries, Bolsheviks, liberals, simple forced emigrants ...) who, by persuasion and some by intimidation, tried to take possession of these "golden" millions. A real hunt began for money! .. Kromov bitterly pronounces a prophetic phrase: "The word has a double meaning."

And so it happened. The count made many enemies, his mother disowned him, his friends turned his back, his wife left, but Aleksey Alekseevich stubbornly repeats the same thing: “This is the money of Russia! "I will return them to my homeland when real power is established there, whatever it may be! ..”

And only in 1925, after diplomatic relations were resumed between France and Soviet Russia, Count Alexei Alekseevich Kromov transferred all the money to the Bolsheviks through their authorized representative Leonid Borisovich Krasin .

Work on the film

When writing the script, the plot was based on real events and people. The prototype of Count Kromov was Count Alexei Alekseevich Ignatiev , author of the famous book Fifty Years in Service. In fact, the film “Kromov” is the story of Count Ignatiev (military attaché of the Russian Empire in France), who really saved all the money and in 1925, through the plenipotentiary representative of the USSR Leonid Borisovich Krasin, transferred this money to Russia. [one]

The idea of creating the film was born after Konstantin Filimonov read the story of Vasily Borisovich Livanov “The wealth of the military attache”, dedicated to this story. Livanov sold the film company "Constant-film" the right to film adaptation. However, one of the co-authors of the script, Mikhail Petukhov, notes that the plot of the film “Kromov” was intentionally prescribed not about Count Ignatiev and not from the book “The Wealth of the Military Attache”. The authors, without violating real events, wanted to talk about the Russian officers as a whole - about that tragic time and the fate of Russian emigrants, about their exploits and meannesses. [2]

The premiere of the film "Kromov" took place in the cinema "October" as part of an out-of-competition screening at the XXXI-th Moscow International Film Festival ( MIFF ). In the future, the film was shown several times in cinemas on the big screen, but this film was not in the box office. Due to disagreements with the producers of the film, V. B. Livanov demanded to remove his surname from the credits and not mention his story “The Wealth of the Military Attache, ” which was the basis of the film.
