This species of butterflies lives in South Africa, as well as in Madagascar .
The wingspan of males is up to 45–46 mm, females are 42–48 mm. Flight time from April to May.
Caterpillars feed on Fleurya capensis , Laportia peduncularis , Pouzolia parasitica , Didymodoxa caffra and plants from the nettle genus. [one]
Subspecies
There are two subspecies:
- A. h. hippomene (Hübner, 1823) (in Swaziland ).
- A. h. madegassorum (Aurivillius, 1899) (in Madagascar ).
