Flowers in the Dirt is the eighth solo studio album by Paul McCartney , released in 1989. The disc marked the return of McCartney to extensive touring activities, since after the release of the album McCartney went on his first world concert tour after 1975-1976, when he and Wings performed on the world tour of Wings Over the World . Flowers in the Dirt also stands out for its excellent quality of music, which brought McCartney some of the best reviews for many years.

About the album
After it turned out that the Press to Play album was selling poorly, McCartney realized that it was necessary to work more carefully on the recording of the next album. Therefore, he not only united in this work with several other producers, but also spent about a year and a half to achieve the highest possible quality of recordings for Flowers in the Dirt . McCartney's collaboration on recording sessions for this album with Elvis Costello is of great importance; they co-wrote a few songs (as songwriter, Costello was designated by his real name - Dicklan McManus). McCartney was very pleased with this collaboration - he even said that in some respects Costello reminds him very much of John Lennon . Costello performs on this album not only as a songwriter or producer, but also as one of the performers - in particular, he and McCartney sing the song “You Want Her Too” together. Another celebrity who took part in the work on the album was McCartney’s friend, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmore , who, in particular, plays the guitar in the song “We Got Married”.
Perfectly imagining that he is to go on the biggest and most difficult tour in his solo career, while working on the album, McCartney assembled a permanent composition of the group accompanying him; these musicians took part in various forms in the work on Flowers in the Dirt . Guitarist Hamish Stewart was well known for his work in the Average White Band . Guitarist Robbie McIntosh was a member of the Pretenders band. The basis for the sound was set by drummer Chris Whitten and keyboard player Paul "Weeks" Wickens . Paul's wife Linda McCartney also performed on the album as a keyboard player.
Album Release
In early 1989, work on the album was completed. In May 1989, the song “ My Brave Face ”, written in the style of the early songs of The Beatles , was released as a single; the single became a hit, reaching the 25th place in the US singles chart, and 18th place in the UK.
The album was released on June 5, 1989 against the background of great public interest in it, and immediately got the 1st place in the UK charts; his release was accompanied by very friendly reviews in the press. In the US, the reaction to the release of the album was much warmer than on Press to Play ; the album in the charts rose to 21st place, remained in the charts for about a year and was certified as “gold”, although sales were lower than expected.
The second single from the album, “This One”, released on July 17, 1989 (in the UK only), rose in the UK charts, like “My Brave Face”, to 18th place. Two more singles, “ Figure of Eight ” / “Où est le Soleil?” And “ Put It There ”, had more modest results in the UK charts.
The World Tour ( The Paul McCartney World Tour ) began on September 26, 1989 and lasted until July 1990; The performances of McCartney and his accompanying group on the tour took place in North America, Europe, Japan and Brazil.
Photos for the album cover were taken by Linda McCartney. The back cover was designed by British artist Brian Clarke ( Brian Clarke ), who also designed the stage for concerts on the world tour of McCartney and his band.
The limited edition in the United Kingdom (October 1989) and the United States (January 1990; with British catalog numbers) released the Flowers in the Dirt edition of the World Tour Pack; it was sold in facsimile packaging ( eng. sold in a facsimile trunk ). The set, included in the publication, included the bonus single “Party Party” (mixed by Bruce Forest; English Bruce Forest ; released as a single-sided 7-inch single with the World Tour Pack vinyl record and as a 3-inch CD single with the World Tour Pack "on CD ).
In March 1990 (also in limited edition) another edition of the album was released, which included a bonus disc, previously released only in Japan.
In the USSR, the album was released by the company " Melody " in 1990 [8] .
In 1993, the album was remastered and reissued as part of the release of the Paul McCartney Collection series. In this reissue, three bonus tracks were added, previously released only on singles to the album.
