Partnership for Peace

Map of PfP member countries.      Current program participants      Former program participants, now NATO members

Partnership for Peace (PfP ) is a NATO-led military cooperation program launched in 1994 with European states and former Soviet republics of Transcaucasia and Central Asia that are not members of the organization. Initially, it covered 24 countries, but their number periodically changes due to the accession of new states to the program or the entry of already verified partner countries into NATO's military and political structures. 21 countries are participating in the Partnership for Peace program for the summer of 2017.

Potential members

The Republic of Cyprus is the only member of the European Union not participating in the program. Turkey, due to the fact that Cyprus does not recognize, blocks the cooperation of this state with NATO [3] , since the conflict between the Turkish and Greek parts of the island of Cyprus remains unresolved.

The Republic of Kosovo , territorially located in Europe, does not participate in the program, since four countries that do not recognize Kosovo’s sovereignty impede the cooperation of this state with NATO .

Notes

  1. ↑ According to documents published by Wikileaks , during the war in South Ossetia, Georgia appealed to NATO on the basis of its right to consult, as stated in the document, however, according to US military adviser to NATO Bruce Weinrod , some members of the alliance - First of all, Germany - Russia repeats the accusations against Georgia.
