Biography
His full name is al-Imam al-Sabt Sayyid al-Huffaz Suleiman ibn al-Ashas ibn Ishaq al-Azdi al-Sijistani. Abu Daud was born in 817 in the city of Sistan , in the south-east of Iran and south-west of Afghanistan . He was an Arab from the Azd tribe, which was one of the largest tribes of the Arabian Peninsula. With the beginning of the spread of Islam, some of the Azdites began to settle in different parts of the Arab Caliphate [2] . An ancestor of Abu Daoud, Imran died in the Battle of Siffin, fighting on the side of Caliph Ali [3] .
He lived in Basra. In order to collect Hadith Abu Daud visited Khorasan , Iraq , Egypt , Syria , Hejaz and other parts of the Caliphate. When he made his first journey he was less than twenty years old [2] . He studied Hadith in more than 300 Muhaddis, among whom were such famous Muhaddis as Abu Salam, Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Ibn Abu Shayb, Yahya ibn Ma'in [2] and many others [3] .
Abu Daud focused on the Hadith on legal topics. He considered the use of any “weak” hadith in legal matters better than following a judgment by analogy [3] .
He died in the year 889 in Basra .
Proceedings
Abu Daud is the author of about 21 books, the most famous of which are:
- Sunan Abu Dauda is a collection of Hadith containing about 4800 Hadith.
- Kitab al-Marasil is a collection of Hadith, containing 600 Hadith - Mursal.
- Risalat Abu Daud il Ahli Makka is a letter to the inhabitants of Mecca with the description of his “Sunan” [4] .
Sunan Abu Dauda
Sunan Abu Daud is the third out of the six Hadith collections recognized by Sunni scholars after the collections of Imams al-Bukhari and Muslim . Hadiths from “Sunan” are strong evidence on many Shari'a issues. Often in Sunan you can find hadis that are not in the collections of al-Bukhari and Muslim. Many scholars highly appreciated the work of Abu Daud, since he very carefully selected Hadiths and contributed about 4,800 Hadiths from the 500,000 Hadiths studied by him [3] . Many Hadith reach the degree of reliable [2] .
There are several lists of "Sunan", in the texts of which there are minor discrepancies [3] .
