Biography
Franz Balthazar von Lindern was born on March 1, 1682 in the city of Buxwiller . He was one of eight children in the apothecary’s family. From 1700 he studied in Strasbourg , then - in Halle , Leipzig , Wittenburg , Erfurt and Jena . In 1708, he received a doctorate for his work on bone diseases. After that, Lindern returned to Strasbourg, where he began to teach.
Linder brought fame to several books on medicine in German, including several reprinted Der Venus-Spiegel , describing sexually transmitted diseases . In addition to medicine, Lindern was fond of studying botany, he was the director of the Strasbourg Botanical Garden. In 1728 he published the book Tournefortius Alsaticus , in which he described many plants of the Alzas flora based on the Turnefort classification system. In 1747, this book was republished under the name Hortus Alsaticus .
On April 25, 1755, Franz von Lindern passed away.
