Today Gross-Barman is a state sanatorium . The hot spring beats here. There is a hotel “ Groß Barmen Heisse-Quelle-Resort ”. The source attracts a large number of tourists . Also, many locals come to rest, mainly from Windhoek . Warm, sulphurous healing water with a temperature of 40 to 65 ° C [1] also starts in closed rooms - you can swim not only in the open air.
Gross Barman was named [1] by two members of the Rhine Missionary Community Karl Hugo Haan and Franz Heinrich Kleinschmidt in 1844 , in honor of the city of Barman in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany (today Wuppertal ), when the first settlement was founded here for the first time as a missionary station for the Herero tribe [1] .
To the southeast of Gross Barman is Mount Osanakuppe .
Repair
From December 2010 until the end of 2012 the sanatorium was closed for repairs and refurbishment [1] . Hotel “ Groß Barmen Heisse-Quelle-Resort ” will build spa rooms and conference rooms .
