The iron bridge in Porkhov ( Pskov Region ) serves as a pedestrian and road crossing over the Shelon River.
It was built in 1905 at the expense of Porkhov merchants and philistines: Vanyukov, Jagon, Zaitsev, Zakharov, Zatsky, Kapustin, Kozhevnikov, Manukhin, Fisher, Fufayev. Construction cost 90 605 rubles. Previously, communication between the banks was carried out using a floating bridge. A new capital bridge on stone piers was built a hundred meters upstream. On November 27, 1905, with a large concentration of local residents, in the presence of the Governor Count Adlerberg, the bridge was consecrated and solemnly opened for use.
Together with the construction of the bridge, city embankments were landscaped. A chapel was placed near the bridge. For the county-level Porkhov, the bridge was of crucial transport importance. Its construction made it possible to simplify and accelerate movement in all directions: Novgorod , Pskov , the Baltic lands .
In the summer of 1941, in the central part, the bridge was blown up by retreating Soviet troops . After the war, restored in a slightly different form.
Near the bridge, on the right bank of Sheloni, is the Porkhov Fortress and the building of the Porkhov Fire Station.
