Palmitas ( Spanish: Palmitas ) is a rural settlement ( Pueblo ) in the south-west of Uruguay , in the territory of the Soriano department.

Geography
The village is located in the southern part of the department, north of the ridge of Cucilla del Biscocco, at an altitude of 88 meters above sea level [1] . Palmitas is located approximately 34 kilometers southeast of the city of Mercedes , the administrative center of the department and 205 kilometers northwest of Montevideo , the country's capital. The nearest civilian airport is in the city of Mercedes [1] .
History
Palmitas arose as a settlement at the railway station. Received the status of a rural settlement ( Pueblo ) on November 6, 1953 [2] [3] .

According to the 2011 census , the population was 2,123 people [4] .
