Fictional Biography
Mia Durden was a teenager who had run away from her father, who had oppressed her. Unable to survive on her own, she fell in love with the man who gave her shelter and food in exchange for using her in child prostitution . Mia was rescued by one of her clients, Oliver Queen , who recently returned from the dead and was clearing Star City of criminal elements. [1] Sent by the Green Arrow to help Oliver Quin, Mia found out that this was his alter ego, after which she was adopted by him. Mia continued her work on Oliver, busy rebuilding her life, and after he found her crossbow, he began to train her like an archer. Mia has long asked Green Arrow to become his partner, but for a long time he refused her, not wanting to expose another teenager to danger.
Miya appeared in the “Green Arrow” series as a secondary character until 2004, when the character Judd Winick decided to make her HIV- positive - the legacy of her past prostitute. With this knowledge, Mia doubled her attempts to convince the Green Arrow to allow it to become a new Speedy , and the Green Arrow eventually agreed. [1] Mia wears a Speedid cloak, [2] and suddenly Oliver decides that the best for her will be to join the Young Titans team. To prove that she is suitable, Cyborg forces her to fight Robin . Although Robin defeated Speedy, Mia proved that she is a very capable fighter and worthy of the Titans. Shortly after her first official mission with the Titans, she revealed to the team that she was infected with HIV. They accepted the news without question or doubt.
The first Spidy, Arsenal (Roy Harper), gave Mie a set of his old arrows, including the mysterious blue arrow with the inscription: “use only in extreme need”. Not even Roy knew her strength. Mia was tempted to use an arrow in the first mission against Dr. Light; against the obsessed Superboy, Indigo, Lex Luthor and Brainiac ; and again, when they met the Brother Blood servants of the demons. When she finally used the arrow, it turned out that she opened the door to the Phantom Zone and was stolen by Roy from Superman's Loneliness Fortress when he was Speedy. Mia used the boom in an attempt to trap Superbay Prime; however, he was able to escape from there almost instantly, apparently due to his superpower.
A year later
After the events of the Infinite Crisis, Mia was recovering on the island with the Green Arrow and his son Connor Hawke , returning about a year later. [3] While on the island, Mia learned new techniques and was treated, and also learned to work in a team with a green arrow.
Jason Todd , Batman's former partner, kidnapped Mia. He believed that they were very similar to Spidy, although he kidnapped her to take revenge on the dark knight for interfering with his arms smuggling operation. By putting the Green Arrow into action, he was going to show Batman the price for interfering with others in their conflict. Jason took Speedy to Smith O'Neill School, where former Robin unleashed her to fight. Jason told how they are alike, both grew up on the street and were forced to do bad things in order to survive. He also knew about her past and the situations in which she fell; about her family, about her work as a prostitute and her HIV disease. Jason defeated Speedy, but allowed her to escape, saying at last that neither Batman nor the Green Arrow could ever understand him, but she could. After that he blew up the school and left. Despite strong rejection, Jason's words clearly influenced Mia.
Months later, great changes began in Mia and her family, starting with the engagement of the Green Arrow and the Black Canary . After the ceremony at Happy Harbor, when they were attacked by supervillains, it was said that Green Arrow never married Dinah. He was abducted and replaced by Evrimen, who tried to kill Dean during the wedding night. Mia, Connor and Dina were able to save Oliver from the captivity of Granny Gudness and the Amazons, but immediately after that Connor almost died from a shot destined for Oliver. The attack leaves Connor in a vegetative state, after which he was abducted, presumably by the League of Assassins. Mia, Dina and Ollie searched the whole world with Batman and Plastic in search of a vigilante under the name Dodger to which Mia was attracted. During the mission, Mia and Dodger worked together; Dodger subsequently invited Mia for a date.
After saving Connor, Mia moved to London to continue the affair with Dodger, although she eventually returned, breaking with him after she caught him kissing with Emma Watson . She returned in time to save the Black Canary during the battle and become a witness to how Olli left. She returned in a black suit with arrows, different from Oliver’s green suit and the red one that Roy wore when he was a Red arrow .
Cry for Justice
During the events of the “ Justice League: Cry for Justice ”, Miya sat with Roy Harper’s daughter, Lian, but wasn’t there when Eletkroshoker ( Eng. Electrocutioner ) blew up the bombs laid under Star City . These bombs were designed to move Star City to another dimension. However, instead of moving, the bombs began to destroy the city, and, to Mia’s dismay, the house was with Lian inside. [4] After the destruction of the city, Mia briefly travels to Coast City with Connor to fight the invasion of the Black Lanterns . She and Connor saved Dean from Oliver, transformed into the Necron Black Lantern. [5] They appear to have returned to Star City after the end of Darkest Night .
In the story “JLA: Rise and Fall,” Mia helps Green Arrow after the Justice League tried to catch him for killing Prometheus. While Green Arrow distracted the League, Mia kidnapped the Stun Gun and led him to their shelter under Star City. [6] Although she pleads with the Green Arrow to give her a chance to kill the Stun Gun, he convinces her that killing is not an option, and sends him to prison. [7] Shortly after his arrest, Miya appears at Liana’s funeral along with several other heroes, including her former colleagues from the Young Titans. During the funeral, Miyu is attacked by Roy, blaming her for the death of Lian. Although the Ravager intervenes and forces Roy to leave, Mia was still shaken by accusations and guilt for a while. [eight]
Together with Damien Wayne and a group of other ex-Titans, Mia is helping the current Young Titans in the battle against Superboy-Prime and the Death Legion. [9] In the course of the battle, she and the Ravager work together, successfully defeating the Persuader ( Persuader ). [ten]
Strengths and abilities
The mission does not possess superpowers, but is a very outstanding archer. Unlike Connor Hawk , who relied on ordinary arrows, Mia, like Oliver, uses arrows with different special tips. In addition to the bow, Miya is a very effective crossbow user, to Oliver’s dismay. Connor Hawke and Black Canary taught her many forms of martial arts and self-defense even before the adoption of the Speedo mantle. A year after Infinite Crisis , she increased her training on the island with Connor and, like her mentor, is now an expert in sword fighting.
The mission is HIV-positive, and for this reason it has to use antiretroviral drugs with all the side effects. Because of her position, she has to be very careful with the injuries sustained in the bouts.
Beyond Comics
Television
- Mia Durden appears in season 9 of the Secret of Smallville series, where she was played by actress Alice Gatien . The character appears in two episodes - "Between two fires" (No. 6) and "Pupil" (No. 10). In the series, she is not a Green Arrow partner and does not wear a suit, but the colors of her clothes are the colors of the Spidy suit — yellow and red.
- In the new series of Green Arrow " Arrow ", Oliver Queen has a younger seventeen-year-old sister Thea Queen (played by actress Will Holland ), to whom he refers to "Speedy", which may be a hint that she will put on a costume later in the series. The fictitious name of Tei on Corto Maltese is Mia. This is a reference to Mia Dearden, one of the assistants of the Green Arrow. The second name Tei, Dearden, is also a reference to Mia. It is also possible that Thea's character was obtained by combining Mia and Roy Harper , since she is cocaine-dependent, like Roy. In this case, Roy himself later appears in the series performed by Colton Haynes , as Thea's romantic interest. She also turned to her biological father, Malcolm Merlin, to teach her “not to be afraid,” after which he spent with her a series of brutal training sessions of the League of Assassins. In the 19th series of the third season, she was mortally wounded by Ras Al Ghul. On the 20th episode, she was resurrected by Oliver and Rasus using the pit of Lazarus. At the end of season 3, Thea becomes Speedy.
- Thea Queen appeared along with Green Arrow and John Digle in episode 8 of the season 2 of the Flash television series. The role is also performed by Willa Holland .
