History
Description
The reserve massif covers part of the Hutsul Alps ( Rakhiv Mountains ), which are the northwestern outskirts of the Marmarosh mountain range . From the north-east, the reserve is bounded by the Kvasny River, from the east and south by the Ukrainian-Romanian border. Within the reserve are mountains: Pop Ivan Marmaroshsky (1936 m), Petros (Pietrosul) (1784 m), Berlebashka (1733 m), Zherban (1795 m), etc.
The protected area, with an area of 8990 hectares, lies within the altitude of 750-1940 m above the main mountain node is Mount Ivan Marmaroshsky. The massif is composed of solid crystalline rocks - gneisses , mica and quartz schists , marble-like limestones of the Jurassic period , which determines the specific features of the relief , soil cover, and flora . The relief is characterized by deep intermountain valleys, numerous rocky ridges and peaks. There are traces of Cenozoic glaciation - glacial circuses . Within the massif are the basins of the Bely and Kvasny rivers, which are, respectively, tributaries of the Tisza and Belaya Tisza . The Kvasny basin has a cool and cold, humid microclimate. The White Basin has an inherent warm microclimate. In the highlands, the climate is cold and humid.
Nearest settlements: villages Delovoye and Bogdan , city - Rakhiv .
Nature
The Marmarosh reserve massif is characterized by a peculiar vegetation cover, which is due to its geological structure. At lower levels, mixed deciduous-coniferous and deciduous forests are widespread. Beech forests are common on the southern slopes and on calcium-rich soils. The largest areas are occupied by mixed groups. In a cold climate, spruces are common on the upper border of the forest , which runs here at an altitude of 1600-1700 m. Above are subalpine and alpine meadows with fragments of thickets of crooked forests, mainly from mountain pine . In the subalpine and alpine zones, several rare species of plants are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine .
The fauna of the massif is very similar to Montenegro , but has its own characteristics. Due to the more rocky landscape of the highlands, the inhabitants of rocky placers are better represented - the snow - vole and the alpine vole . Only here the Peregrine Falcon is noted in the reserve, which prefers rocky areas. Of invertebrates, some endemic species of insects are found.
