Biography
Born on March 5, 1920 in the village of Obolyaninovka (later Kondakovo [1] ) of the Autonomous Region of the Volga Germans of the Saratov Province of the RSFSR (now the territory of the Krasnoarmeysky District of the Saratov Region ) in a peasant family.
He graduated from 7 classes of incomplete secondary school No. 13 in the city of Engels in 1933 , the school of FZU at the machine-building plant in Moscow in 1935 (later SPTU No. 1), the flying club in 1937 .
In 1936-1938 he worked as a turner at a tractor repair plant in the city of Engels .
Since 1938 in the ranks of the Red Army. In 1939 he graduated from the Engels Military Aviation Pilot School. In 1939-1940 he served as an instructor in the theory and technique of piloting, then was transferred to the same position at the Tashkent military school of shooter-bombers.
He participated in the Great Patriotic War from November 1941 to October 1944 on the North-Western, South-Western, Southern, 4th Ukrainian and 3rd Belorussian fronts, successively holding the positions of unit commander, deputy commander and squadron commander, and regiment navigator.
He took part in the defense of Leningrad and Stalingrad , in defeating the enemy on the Mius River, in the Donbass , Crimea , Belarus and Lithuania. All combat sorties Kondakov, as a leading group, performed with great accuracy bombing and attack, with high art of air combat, both with bombers and enemy fighters.
On August 2, 1943, during the battles in Donbass, the Kondakov squadron was the first to use special incendiary bombs on the Southern Front, destroying 13 enemy tanks that day.
On August 20, 1943, a group of 11 Il-2 attack aircraft , led by Kondakov, was given the task of destroying enemy tanks concentrated in the vicinity of the village of Saur-Mogilsky for a counterattack on troops of the Southern Front that broke through enemy defenses on the Mius River. When approaching the target, Kondakov found up to 50 Ju-87 bombers, which, under the cover of 4 fighters, were rebuilt in combat order over the area of the village of Krinichka occupied by our units. At the signal of Kondakov, attack aircraft, taking advantage of their altitude, crashed into the battle formations of German dive bombers at high speed. Kondakov attacked the leader. The Junkers, in a sharp dive, tried to escape from the attack, but the machine-gun burst at close range Kondakov lit the Ju-87 , which fell in the vicinity of the village of Krinichka. Following the first Junkers, well-aimed fire of Soviet pilots brought down another 5 bombers and 1 fighter. Hastily dropping bombs on their troops, the rest of the Junkers left the battlefield. Having successfully completed the air battle, the Kondakov squadron struck at the enemy tank group.
On August 25, 1943, the plane of Senior Lieutenant Kondakov was hit by enemy fighters and safely landed near the command post of the 8th Air Army.
A fierce battle between the Soviet attack aircraft and enemy bombers occurred on August 30, 1943 in the area of Novo-Natalyevka. In this aerial battle, Kondakov’s group shot down 8 enemy aircraft, including 2 Junkers personally by Kondakov and one Me-109 with his air gunner.
On September 30, 1943, in the Rosenthal area, a group of senior lieutenant Kondakov discovered 2 groups of Ju-87 bombers with 30 aircraft each. Soviet pilots in the “wedge of pairs” formation rushed towards the enemy with a climb. The host fired the first at Lapotnikov. Following him from a distance of 50-100 meters fired and led. In this battle, the enemy missed 3 aircraft.
On April 11, 1944, the 6 Ilyushins, led by the Kondakov in the area of the Shevchenko village, destroyed 10 tanks in 23 minutes of battle and crushed 2 enemy batteries.
A telegram was immediately received from the commander of the air army, General T. T. Khryukin: “Kondakov’s group fought excellently. I thank all the pilots and personally Kondakov. ”
The brave attack pilot flew about 160 sorties, but he did not have to live up to the bright Victory Day. On October 13, 1944, Major V.A. Kondakov died of wounds received a few days earlier when his plane was shot down. After only 2 weeks, on October 26, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union .
He was buried in Kaunas .

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Banner (three times), Alexander Nevsky, World War II degree; medal "3a defense of Stalingrad."
Memory

- In the city of Krasnoarmeysk, Saratov Region, at the monument of Eternal Glory - a memorial plaque;
- The name of the Hero is the village in which he was born (currently does not exist). In 1951, the decision of the Engels city executive committee st. Lower was renamed to st. named after Kondakov, and on the house number 1, where the mother of the Hero lived, a memorial plaque was installed.
- In 2003, V. A. Kondakov was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the Engels Municipal District” (posthumous).
