Wang Lequan ( Chinese trad. 王樂泉 , ex. 王乐泉 ; December 1, 1944 , Shouguan County, Shandong Province ) - Chinese politician , leader of the Chinese Communist Party . He currently holds the post of Deputy Chairman of the Central Political and Legal Committee of the CCP . From 1994 to 2010, he was the First Secretary of the CCP of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region . Since 2004 - Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee (16, 17 convocations).

Career
Wang Lequan was born in Shouguan County, Shandong Province . In 1966 he joined the CCP . A graduate of the Central Party School's graduate school, Wang continued to work in the CCP apparatus. In April 1975 - deputy party secretary of the county Shouguan and deputy head of the Revolutionary Committee of the county. Three years later he became the head of the Revolutionary Committee. Later he went to work in the central apparatus of Shandong province. In the mid-1980s, he headed the branch of the Communist Youth Union in Shandong . In 1989, he became deputy chairman of the Provincial People's Government [1] .
In April 1991, Wang Lequan was sent to Xinjiang, where he was included in the party committee of the Autonomous Region. He served as deputy secretary of the party committee. From September 1994 to 2010, he was the First Secretary of the CCP of XUAR . In this post, he was responsible for carrying out Xinjiang modernization programs. With his active support, programs are being developed for industrialization, trade development, large-scale investment in the construction of roads and railways. He took part in the additional exploration of oil and gas deposits in the autonomous region, the opening of the Kazakhstan- China pipeline. There was a negative side - instead of the Uyghur language , in elementary school, everywhere introduced the study of Chinese , limited and prohibited the wearing of a traditional Muslim costume for public servants, prayers in the workplace [1] [2] .
Wang Lequan, a member of the CPC Central Committee , member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee of the 16th and 17th convocations, also served as political commissar of the SPSK .
Known for his strict attitude to national minorities. He received the nickname "Secretary-stability" for the ability to quickly resolve difficult situations and suppress various manifestations of discontent. [one]
The activities of Wang Lequan as the First Secretary were criticized by the Uyghurs and Western Xinjiang scholars for strict, sometimes tough, policies. After the unrest in Urumqi in 2009, the Han people also expressed dissatisfaction with the leader, this was due to the inability to quickly restore social order in the XUAR . As a result, demonstrations were held in Urumqi that expressed the demand for the resignation of Wang Lequan. [3] On April 23, 2010, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a specialized conference on the current situation and future development of the XUAR [4] . According to its results, Wang was removed from the post of First Secretary of the CCP of XUAR and transferred to work in the Central Political and Legal Committee of the CCP .
