History
A small church was originally built on this site in the second half of the 18th century. Subsequently, in its place in 1845 a larger temple was built.
The modern temple was built on the site of previous churches in late 1891. On April 10, 1892, it was consecrated.
In 1960, the Holy See established the Diocese of Minas and the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary became the cathedral of this new diocese.
