On March 9, 2013 , in the 5th title defense, Cloud entered the ring with the legendary 48-year-old boxer, former multiple world champion, Bernard Hopkins . In the sixth round, Cloud received a cut, which, according to the referee, was the result of a clash of heads. A repeat between rounds showed that Cloud's cut appeared after the strike to the left of Hopkins. Cloud suffered his first early defeat, and Stevenson successfully defended the championship belt in front of the local public.
Fight with Arthur Beterbiev
After five fights with little-known rivals, Beterbiev reached a much higher level, having met with Tavoris Cloud. The result of the battle was unexpected - already in the first round Beterbiev, inflicting a large number of power strikes and refusing to go to the clinch, managed to knock the former champion three times. At the very beginning of the second round, another knockdown took place, after which Cloud did not rise to the referee's account, and the fight was stopped.
