It can be obtained by the action of carbon monoxide and hydrogen on metallic rhodium:

2Rh+8CO+H2→p2HRh(CO)four{\ displaystyle {\ mathsf {2Rh + 8CO + H_ {2} \ {\ xrightarrow {p}} \ 2HRh (CO) _ {4}}}} {\ displaystyle {\ mathsf {2Rh + 8CO + H_ {2} \ {\ xrightarrow {p}} \ 2HRh (CO) _ {4}}}}

It is used as a catalyst in organic chemistry, for example, in the catalytic hydrogenation of carbon monoxide [1] .
