Gameplay

In Rogue Galaxy, a player controls a group of up to three characters who travel the game world, fight various opponents and interact with non-player characters . Most of the game, the player can choose the characters that he will control along with the main character - Jester. Management is carried out from a third party. The player controls one character from the group, the rest are controlled by artificial intelligence , but the player can give them commands. The game has the ability to freely control the camera. The player can move from one planet to another with the help of an airship, and movement on each of the planets occurs on foot, or by teleportation from one recording point to those recording points at which the player has already been. Also at the recording points, the process of recording the game on the memory card is carried out.

The in-game currency is called Zen. The player receives money for the victory over opponents, as well as for the sale of items received during the battle.

Battle System

Battles in Rogue Galaxy take place in real time and the participants in the battle are not transferred to a separate battlefield, as is done in many other jRPGs. In addition to attack, special menus are used to assign teams to the characters, and the battle is suspended while the player assigns teams. The teams include: “Abilities”, “Change of Equipment” and “Things”. It is also possible to quickly use an ability or thing by a character controlled by artificial intelligence from a special menu, at this moment the game does not stop. The player can directly during the battle, how to change the controlled character, and the characters included in the group.

The game uses a system of random battles , that is, in a certain place the player may be attacked by an opponent who is not visible beforehand, at this moment the message “Warning !!” ( Russian Warning ) appears on the screen and the characters take out their weapons. During the battle, objects that can be launched into the enemy also appear in the location. The squad can have no more than three characters, but the player has the ability to change participants at any time, except when the character performs any action actions, killed characters can also be replaced. After winning the battle, the characters show their victory gestures and remove their weapons, and information on the things received and the experience gained appears on the screen, but nevertheless, the player at this moment can control the group. Some random battles offer a test (for example, to defeat all enemies for a specific character or win for a certain time), for completing the test, the player receives a hunter coin ( Eng.Hunter Coin ), a certain amount of which opens up access to new items in stores and discounts on purchases.

All actions in battle are limited by the Action Gauge , which is spent for using attacks, abilities and things. When the divisions in the scale end, the character cannot attack and it is necessary to wait until the scale is full. A successfully blocked opponent’s attack fills the scale instantly.

Each character has two types of weapons - the primary and secondary. With the help of the main weapon, the character can perform, along with the main attack, also the charging attack ( English Charge Attack ), which is able to break through the protection of certain types of enemies. The use of additional weapons is limited by the reload scale, as soon as the scale is empty, it takes time to reload the weapon, but the number of these reloads is limited. Using shooting weapons in a jump is impossible.

Using abilities spends Ability Points of the character, the number of which depends on the level of the character. Each character has abilities that are performed in conjunction with another character or characters, therefore, to use these abilities, certain characters must be in the group.

After collecting a certain number of “Burning Plates” ( Eng. Burning Chips ) that fall out of the enemy during the battle, it becomes possible to carry out the Burning Strike ( Eng. Burning Strike ) in time by pressing the buttons that appear on the screen. [five]

Character Development System

As in many other role-playing computer games , characters gain experience points after defeating opponents; after the accumulation of a certain amount of experience, the character receives a new level of development. With each new level, the characteristics of the character automatically increase.

In addition to gaining new levels, characters can improve their characteristics and learn new abilities using the Revelation Chart . The table of revelations is a set of cells standing separately or grouped up to 6 side by side. If a player fills a group of cells with the necessary items from the inventory, the character will receive a new ability or improve any of the characteristics. The revelation table is unique for each character, unlike the counterparts in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII .

Weapon Synthesis

Rogue Galaxy has a weapon synthesis system similar to the one in the Dark Cloud series of games. Each weapon in the game has a scale showing how well the character possesses this weapon, when this scale reaches its maximum, it becomes possible to combine this weapon with another of the same type. If you continue to use the weapon, the skill of using which is maximum, this weapon will inflict additional damage with fire, ice, lightning, wind and holiness. Weapons with maximum indices of elemental elements become fully studied and, when synthesizing new weapons, have a positive effect. Thus, combining certain weapons, it becomes possible to get a stronger weapon. By combining the wrong weapon you can get a weaker weapon.

Factory

Battle insect in the tournament. Above are the names of the fighting players, below them are five circles, the size of which indicates the remainder of the lives of the five insects. Also, the insect's standard of living is indicated above each insect on the field, and below the life for the selected insectors is indicated in more detail.

The factory is a mini-game on quick wits , access to which the player receives after the plot events in the first half of the game. Some non-player characters tell the player the design of a weapon or item. To create this item, the player must select the correct source materials from his inventory, select the correct machines for their processing and correctly connect these machines to each other. After the player rebuilds the factory and starts the production process, he can track the path of the source materials in order to understand what he was wrong in case of production failure.

Insectron

This is a mini-game in which a player, using a trap and bait, catches a detachment of 5 insects and uses it to battle with the enemy's insectors on a chessboard-like board [6] . The battles in the Insectron tournament are a tactical role-playing game whose goal is to defeat the main insect of the enemy. You can win by emptying the HP level of the enemy insect or throwing it off the board. The game has 18 types of insects, each of which has its own unique attack.

Concept

World

The world of Rogue Galaxy is a planetary system called the Wilhelser System , consisting of 5 planets, a nebula , a ghost ship and a planet removed from the planetary system into another dimension. The planets in this system are fundamentally different from each other and include a desert planet , a planet covered by the jungle, a planet most of which is covered by the ocean and others. Most of the planets in the Wilhelser system are under the control of the Longardian Federation, which is at war with the Draxian Empire, which in turn is located in the planetary system of Yggdra.

In connection with the pirate style, the ship of the main characters looks like a pirate ship, but is capable of space travel. In this regard, in the world of the game, heroes are able to be on the deck of the ship and not experience difficulties due to the lack of air in space.

The planets of the game world are populated by both humans and other intelligent creatures. The oceanic planet Alistia ( Eng. Alistia ) is inhabited by humanoids that look like anthropomorphic fish and other marine inhabitants. Also in the game, there are humanoids similar to various animals, and humanoids that have no analogues in the real animal world.

Story

The story begins with the fact that a small Jester lives on the desert planet Rosa and dreams of flying into space. The priest Raul raised him from childhood and replaced his father. Once the monsters attack his hometown Salgin ( Eng. Salgin ) and he decides to fight back. The mysterious man in the hood helps the cope with the monsters to Jester, who soon leaves Jester alone, giving him his sword. Soon after, two space pirates - the robot Steve and the masked man Simon - mistook him for the legendary treasure hunter whom they were instructed to find Dorgengoa. Jester understands that this is a chance to fly into space and realize his dream and does not tell the pirates that they are not looking for him. Having beaten the city from monsters, Jester goes on a ship to the pirates.

On the ship, Jester meets the rest of the crew, but he is unable to see the captain, because he is sleeping. After the monsters attacked Dorgenark, the ship crashes on the underdeveloped planet Juraika covered in the jungle. Jester, Kisala, and Zegram set off in search of plants capable of helping repair the ship. As a result of the actions of the pirates, Lilika joins the team, who is expelled from the village because she kills a monster whom her tribe considered a god to save her younger sister. The team repairs the ship and goes to the planet Zerard to extend the galactic visa. Zegram substitutes Jester, Simon and Lilika and they find themselves at the lower level of the local prison. After escaping from prison, the group again fails to extend the visa, because the computers are not working due to a hacker attack. The group deals with the hacker, but he manages to escape. By renewing the visa and returning to Dorgenark, it turns out that the hacker, whose name is Jupis, is now one of them. Captain Dorgengoa wakes up and reveals that Jester is not Desert Clough. In order to give Jester a chance, the captain lands Jester on the planet Vedan, so that he can get an ancient plate. Nevertheless, the plate is taken by Deuteron. Digo, a former soldier of Longardia, joins the group. Tracing the ship of Deutron, the pirates fly to Rosa and find that the stove is able to open the passage to the legendary planet Eden, but three keys are needed for this. The keys are located in the ruins of the ancient kings of the three planets and the pirates decide to get them before Deuteron.

After all the keys are collected, Zegram betrays the group and steals all the keys in order to exchange them with Deutron for the life of his girlfriend, but Deuteron is not able to fulfill his part of the transaction and Zegram decides not to give the keys. Deuteron decides to pick up the keys by force, but Jester and Kisala come to the aid of Zegram. Deuteron fails to open the passage, but in the heat of battle, Jester enters the state of the Star King in which he manages to open the passage. In the labyrinth that opens, Jester and Kisala meet a robot that gives an object that can open the way to the planet Mariglenn, also known as Eden, and also says that Kisala is the princess of Mariglen Iriet. After leaving the maze, Jester sees that President Deutron Valkog attacked his hometown. Raul saves Salgin, but the falling ship of Deutron kills Raul. Before his death, Raoul gives Jester an artifact that shows him the way to the Kuje Desert , where Jester discovers the lost city and the ghost of his mother. After that, Jester gains the full power of the Star King, and Desert Clough tells Jester that he is his father and who his mother was. Pirates open the passage to the planet Maryglenn and go there for treasures and eternal life.

Arriving at Mariglenn, the team finds out that there is a Rune on the planet and the creature that controls it is Mother, due to which the galaxy is filled with monsters and because of which Mariglen was separated from the rest of the galaxy 10,000 years ago. The only way to defeat Mother is through the sacred sword Zeo Sychros, which the Star King should use. To create a sword, the team goes to collect Drigellum. After receiving the sword, the group goes to battle with the Mother, who turns out to be the sorceress Ilzarbella ( Eng. Ilzarbella ), which was fed by the power of the Rune. After defeating her, Rune is dragged by the Deuteron’s warship that appeared above and Valkog and his assistants Norma and Iseland drop out of it and become a huge monster due to the impact of Runa. Kisala's mother appears, giving another Drigellum, which forces Zio Cycros to transform into a more powerful sword. The group is divided and breaks the villain in parts. After the victory, the pirates never get any treasure, but Dorgengoa is enough that his daughter is happy. Mariglenn returns to his place in the galaxy, but 10,000 years pass by that he was absent, and all this time they waited for Kisalu, who should become their queen. Kisala agrees to rule the planet, and the pirates decide to steal Kisala, since they are pirates.

The game was positively received by the gaming press, the score on the Metacritic website was 83 out of 100 points based on 59 reviews [16] , and on Game Rankings - 81.56% based on 62 reviews [26] .

A critic from GameSpot rated the game 8 points out of 10. He noted that the combat system seems to be monotonous and annoying over time. He also noted that even despite the release of new consoles, this game looks like a high-quality cartoon and hardly distracts with downloads.

Kingdom Hearts [25] .

Final Fantasy XII [17] .

Наталья Одинцова из журнала « Страна игр » оценила игру на 8 баллов из 10. Положительными сторонами игры были названы яркая игровая вселенная и увлекательные бои, а отрицательными однообразные подземелья и небольшое количество способностей противников [2] .
