Distribution
The range is the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico .
Subspecies and Varieties
The following subspecies and varieties are distinguished:
- Mirabilis laevis var. crassifolia ( Choisy ) Spellenb. grows on chaparral and in the forests of California and Baja California , including on the island of Sedros , foothills of the Sierra Nevada .
- Mirabilis laevis subsp. glutinosa ( Standl. ) AEMurray
- Mirabilis laevis var. retrorsa ( A.Heller ) Jeps. grows in Nevada , Oregon east to Utah and south to Arizona and northwest Mexico.
- Mirabilis laevis var. villosa ( Kellogg ) Spellenb. [2] has a range similar to that of Mirabilis laevis var. retrorsa .
