Biography

He entered the Faculty of Mathematics of the Republican University of Uruguay , then transferred to architecture, which he graduated in 1916 with a gold medal. Having received a scholarship from the University Council, he continued his education in Europe, France, Italy and Spain for two years.

Since 1919 he began to work in the municipality of Montevideo , and in 1929 he headed it. In parallel with political activity, he taught at the department of drawing and landscape architecture of the city at his native university. In 1932 he returned to Europe, where he studied various problems of modern urbanism .

In 1951-1956 he was the deputy director of the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning Theory ( App. The Instituto de Teoría de la Arquitectura y urbanismo).

The most famous was due to the construction of the Centenario stadium with the famous "Tower of Remembrance" (1929-1930, one of the best examples of architectural expressionism in Uruguay), which became the arena of the first finals of the World Cup and one of the most famous football stadiums in the world.
