Vladimir Perich-Walter ( serbochor. Biography
Born in 1919 in Priepol . After graduating from high school, he entered the Trade Academy, was forced to study exclusively at his own expense. After graduating from the Academy of Commerce, he entered the Belgrade Higher School of Economics. In 1940, he got a job at the Mortgage Bank in Sarajevo. Being a member of the Communist Party, he headed the Sarajevo city committee. Participated in the labor movement.
During the German occupation of the country, Perich joined the Mayevsky partisan detachment and led it at the end of 1942. In the ranks of the partisans became known under the pseudonym Walther . He fought in the Zenitsky partisan detachment, participated in many battles. He commanded the shock battalion of the 6th East Bosnian shock brigade. At the beginning of 1943 he was sent to illegal work in Tuzla , where he successfully completed all the tasks.
Since the summer of 1943, by order of the command of the NOAU, he was transferred to illegal work in Sarajevo, where he headed the local underground city committee. He successfully led the anti-fascist underground and intelligence network in the city. He provided significant support to the partisan formations operating in the district. Organized guerrilla medical care. Several times, the Sarajevo special police tried to catch Walter and defeat the partisan underground, but each time he slipped out of the hands of the police. At least eight times the police fought with the partisans, but they could not capture Walter.
Being one of the most skilled and brave intelligence agents - participants in the People's Liberation War, he became a legend during his lifetime. Walter repeatedly broke through from Sarajevo into the liberated territory and into the Supreme Headquarters of the NOAU . On April 6, 1945, Vladimir Perich died in the battles for the liberation of Sarajevo, who was hit by a fragment of a mortar shell.
Vladimir Perich was buried near Sarajev in the cemetery of the Popular Heroes in the Vratsa park according to the Orthodox Christian rite. July 24, 1953 by decree of Josip Broz Tito, he was awarded the title of People's Hero of Yugoslavia posthumously.
Memory
- Walter was immortalized in one of the most famous Yugoslav films about World War II, Walter Protects Sarajevo : the main role in this picture was played by Velimir “Bata” Zhivoinovich .
- In China, a beer brand is produced with a photo of Velimir Zhivoinovich in the image of Walter.
- In the Pripolye, where Walter was born, one of the secondary schools bears his name.
- The group “ Dubiosa Collective ” dedicated the song “Vratiće se Valter” ( Serb. Walter will be back ) to him.
