History
The site was created in September 1999 by Andrei Bruckmann, a student at the Cologne Polytechnic Institute, as an Internet club uniting Russian-speaking Internet users from Germany [3] [6] . Registering a Germany.ru domain cost about $ 100 [3] . Brookmann spent most of his free time working on the site. Soon, this project began to be profitable [3] . Initially, there was no registration on the site [7] , it was introduced after a couple of years. By September 2002, more than 60,000 people were registered on the site, and daily traffic was approximately 6,000 visitors [6] . The site not only served as a place for communication, but also began to perform a reference function. The publication “ Russian Germany” related the site’s advantages to the catalog of Internet resources, the “Poster” section of cultural events, as well as the opportunity to receive legal advice [6] . Among the users of the site annual meetings began to be held. According to Kommersant , in 2006 Germany.ru was the largest Russian-language portal outside of Russia. The number of page views per month was 1.8 million [3] . In 2006, the site was awarded the Runet Prize in the nomination "Runet outside the RU" [4] .
The portal “Germany.ru” together with producer Andrei Muratov began organizing concerts of Russian rock performers [3] within the framework of the project “Russian Rock in Germany”. From 2002 to 2012, more than 30 popular Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian rock bands performed in Germany with concerts. On the site, in particular, one could buy tickets for the concerts of Vyacheslav Butusov , Sergey Babkin and the “ Time Machine ” group [8] .

However, according to Alexa.com, the proportion of visitors from Russia is 50.3%, and from Germany - 28.6%. Daily site traffic is estimated at approximately 15,000 visitors [10] .

- Photo The section contains photo albums of users of "Germany.ru". All albums are divided into several thematic categories. There is a search form, search by tags is possible [16] . Users uploaded over 687,000 photos [9] .
- Forums The section contains links to site forums . In total, there are 56 open forums on Germany.ru, among them one German-language.
