Pyotr Vasilyevich Paliyevsky (born May 1, 1932 , Smolensk ) is a Soviet and Russian critic, literary critic, and doctor of philological sciences.

Biography
Born in the family of an engineer, during the war years with his family was hijacked to work in Germany. After the war he returned to Moscow, in 1955 he graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow State University , then he entered graduate school at the Institute of World Literature (IMLI), after which he was a researcher at the Department of Classical Literature at IMLI. Published since 1954 . The dissertation of the candidate of philological sciences - “Image and Artwork”, 1962, IMLI; the dissertation of the doctor of philological sciences - “Development of Russian literature of the XIX - beginning of XX centuries”, 1982, IRLI .
In 1977 - 1994 - deputy director of IMLI. Since 1994 - Chief Researcher at IMLI.
Main research areas
Russian literature in the mainstream of world literature, literary theory, significant achievements of 20th century literature, the work of Anglo-American writers.
Teaching
1969-1970 - philological faculty of Moscow State University; 1994 - Center for Southern Culture, USA, Oxford (Mississippi); 1997 - Literary Institute; lectures at universities in Europe and America.
Community Activities
Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR (1967) and the Union of Writers of Russia (1991).
In the 1960s and 1970s, he took part in the Russian patriotic movement, was one of the founders of the Russian Club and the Soviet-Bulgarian Club of Creative Youth, was a full member of the Free Word Theoretical Discussion Club at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
His sharply critical articles on structuralism and "experimental literature", an essay on Graham Green and Faulkner were then perceived among the humanitarian intelligentsia as vibrant general cultural manifestations, outside their anti-Western pathos, and were widely known. ... subsequently, Palievsky completely left the sphere of cultural and patriotic essayism, which sharply lowered the general level of the ideological direction that he headed [1]
