Hortus Eystettensis (from Latin - “Garden in Eichstadt”) is a book by Basilius Besler of a German botanist, pharmacist, gardener and publisher, whose name was famous thanks to this work; "A treasure of botanical literature."
The book was published in 1613 in Nuremberg, containing botanical descriptions of plants in Latin and highly artistic copper engravings of 1084 plants. This is one of the first scientific botanical works, equipped with realistic and detailed illustrations , which examines decorative and exotic plants.
This book is a unique fruit of the joint work of the patron , botanists and artists .
The book was published with color, hand-painted, prints, and in a more affordable, traditional monochrome version. The book was published in 1640 and 1713, and each time it was printed from the original plates, which were later destroyed at the Mint of Munich in 1817.
