The village is located 8 km northwest of the town of Pytalovo on the Kuhva River.

History
Until 1920 the village is listed in the Tolkovo volost of the Ostrovsky district of the Pskov province .
From 1920 to 1944 was part of Latvia. In 1920-1922 in the Tolkovsky volost, in 1922-1925 in the Bokovskaya volost of the Ludza district . In 1925 it was renamed Purvmala ( Latvian. Purvmala ). In 1925-1944, it was the center of the Purvmal parish of the Jaunlatgale (Abrensky) county of Latvia. In January 1945, the village, together with the district, was transferred to the RSFSR within the framework of the Pytalovsky District of the Pskov Region, which was created on January 16, 1945 (in fact, its administration was transferred to the authorities of the Pskov Region, formed on August 23, 1944, in the same period, which was motivated the absence of other authorities on these lands during the Great Patriotic War ).
