St. Louis Suite (St. Louis Suite [1] , St. Louis limestone [2] [3] , St. Louis Limestone, Saint Louis lime , abbreviated St L [3] ) - a geological formation lying on a large area on Midwest USA . Named after exposure in St. Louis , Missouri . This name was given by Engelmann in 1847 (now it has a narrower meaning than originally) [4] .
It has a Lower Carboniferous (Mississippian) [1] [5] age (about 360-320 million years [6] ).
These sedimentary rocks are limestones with separate layers of flints , shales, and dolomites . There are evaporites [4] . In some places, the suite is oil-bearing [1] . The maximum thickness reaches 122 m [4] .
Among the leading minerals for these limestones are rugose corals Lithostrotion and Lithostrotionella , for the upper part - conodonts Apatognathus scalenus , Cavusgnathus [4] .
In these rocks, the sharks Falcatus were first found, among other ancient organisms.
Below is the limestone of Salem, above is the limestone of Saint Genevieve, with which the border is difficult to draw. The overlap on both borders is consonant [4] . In some places, the rocks of this suite are also covered by Big Clift sandstone .
