Content
History
The village of Kumskoy was formed on the basis of the Ministry of Housing of the Stavropol Territory in 1949 . The village consisted of 10 dugouts, one of which housed a school [2] .
In 1956, after the lifting of restrictions on movement to the territory of the former Kalmyk ASSR, Kalmyks began to return [3] . In 1957, the village was transferred to the newly formed Kalmyk Autonomous Region . After the return of the Kalmyk people, the village began to be actively built up: residential houses and objects of social and cultural purpose were erected. On April 8, 1961, the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic decided to assign the name “Kumskaya” to the central estate of the Kumskaya MZhS in the village [2] .
In 1972, a state farm named after Budenny was established on the basis of the Kumsky Youth Housing Ministry [2] .
Physico-geographical characteristics
The village is located in the south of the Black Earth Region , on the Black Lands , within the Caspian lowland , on the left bank of the Kuma River (Kum collector) [4] , at an altitude of 8 meters below sea level [5] . The terrain is flat, complicated by sandy mounds and small depressions, in which small lakes are located [4] Saline floodplain soils, to the north of the village - sands [6] (Barsukeli tract) [4]
By road, the distance to the capital of Kalmykia, the city of Elista is 240 km, to the district center of the village of Komsomolsky - 44 km [7] .

The climate is sharply continental , with hot and arid summers and little snowy winds, sometimes with significant cold, in winter. According to the Köppen-Geiger classification of climates, the type of climate is semi - arid . The average annual air temperature is + 10.7 ° C, the average temperature of the coldest month of January is 3.9 ° C, the hottest month of July is + 25.1 ° C. The estimated long-term rainfall rate is 287 mm, the least amount of precipitation falls in February (15 mm), the largest in June (39 mm) [5] .

The distance from the village to the district center ( Komsomolsky village) is 45 km, to the nearest railway station - 60 km, the nearest airport - 245 km. There is no regular transport connection with the district center. There is no paved driveway to the village [2] .
