Black corsair

The Black Corsair ( Italian: Il corsaro nero ) is an 1898 adventure novel written by Emilio Salgari . The action takes place in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy . The protagonist - a man named Emilio Roccaner, known as the "Black Corsair" or "Lord of Ventimiglia " - is trying to avenge the governor of Maracaibo , Duke Van Gould, of the murdered brothers. To this end, he unites with several of the most famous pirates of that time, including Francois Olone and Henry Morgan , vowing not to calm down until he makes his retribution .

The storyline about the revenge of the Black Corsair continues throughout several works: “The Queen of the Caribbean” , “Yolanda, the daughter of the Black Corsair” and “The Son of the Red Corsair” .

Movies and TV

There are several adaptations of the novel:

  • 1920s - a series of silent films (dir. Vitale Di Stefano)
  • 1937 - A film by Amleto Palermi with Italian fencing champion Ciro Verratti in the title role.
  • 1944 - Spanish film directed by Chano Uruet. [one]

  • 1999 - by the Italian company Mondo TV "Released the 26-episode animated series " Black Corsair ".
