Representative gentry clan coat of arms " Pulkozits ." His father, Stanislav Volsky, served as a Sandomierz cough and a court marshal in Warsaw.

He was brought up at the court of the ex-duke of Austria Maximilian .

On behalf of the king, he carried out various diplomatic missions, served as an envoy to several European courts. Thanks to a deep knowledge of the laws and merits that he carried out with great dignity, he was appointed in 1600 - the crown crown marshal, and then in 1616 - the great crown crown marshal. He was in this post until his death.

He invited and brought to Poland many skilled craftsmen.

Being the ambassador of Sigismund III to Pope Clement VIII , one of the first Poles met the Catholic monastic autonomous congregation of the Camaldolians and became the founder of the first in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth monastery of the Order of Camalduls.

He was a big fan of art and literature, left after his death in the library of the Jagiellonian University a large collection of Spanish books.

According to legend, N. Volsky for a long time indulged in occult hobbies , was engaged in black magic and alchemy , but at the end of his life he came to the conclusion that he led a godless, unrighteous life. At his expense, a monastery and a church were built in Belany (Krakow district), at the entrance to which, according to his will, he was buried
