Possible involvement in the Chushka massacre
On May 14, 1999, in the Kosovo village of Chushka, whose population did not exceed 2 thousand people, 43 burnt corpses of men aged 19 to 69 were discovered. On that day, a Serbian armed detachment entered the village in search of Albanian militias and ordered all local residents to gather in the center of the village. The Serbs began a search of the houses, during which they seized all valuables and drove women and children out of the houses, forcing them to go to neighboring villages [2] .
During a search in the village, Serbs suspected several men of belonging to Albanian rebels and started firing. As a result, 11 people were first killed in the village, whom the Serbs suspected of helping the militias, and then 32 more people were shot at ages from 19 to 69 years. The corpses of the dead were burned. The death toll also included Hassan Cheku, father of Agim Cheku , commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army . Also on that day the brother of Agim was also executed [3] [4] [5] [6] .
The prosecutor’s office regarded the incident as “a crime committed with particular cruelty in order to force Albanians to leave their homes.” She named the “Jackals” radical paramilitary organization, whose leader was Nebojsa Minich , nicknamed “Death Commander,” the culprits in the murder. On May 27, 2005, Neboisha was arrested in Argentina with false passports [7] , but he still had no time to face trial, having died in the isolation ward ( AIDS was named the cause of death).
On December 20, 2010 , the trial in the Shakalov case [8] [9] began in Belgrade. In the dock were 8 people:
- Srechko Popovich [10] [11] [12]
- Slavisha Kastratovich
- Boban Bogichevich
- Zvonimir Tsvetkovich
- Radoslav Brnovich
- Vidoe Korichanin
- Velko Korichanin
- Abdullah Sokich
On December 25, Zoran Obradovic, who was hiding in Germany [13] [13] , got into the dock, and on December 28 Miloiko “Shumadia” Nikolic, who was hiding in Montenegro [14] [15] [16] [17], also appeared in court. Five more people guilty of the crime are currently on the international wanted list.
