Biography
Born in Prussia.
In 1724, in Leiden, he presented the dissertation of a doctor of medicine.
Had a private practice in Moscow .
In 1730, Osterman recommended him to the Empress Anna Ioannovna in life medics . Appointed archbishop on January 3, 1732; for two years he managed the entire medical unit in the Russian Empire, reporting directly to the empress [3] . He achieved the removal from the court of the architects I. L. Blumentrost (whose place he took), as well as the life-surgeon Pagenkampf and doctor of medicine Schober [4] . With his participation, the salary of regimental and garrison doctors was increased, import duties on medicines were canceled [4] .
In 1734, he left his post and went abroad. In subsequent years, he repeatedly appealed to the Russian court for benefits, for the payment of allegedly under-paid money for the service, for his appointment as an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences [3] [4] .
In the book "Introductio in notitiam rerum naturalium ..." (The Hague, 1743) I. Rieger published the secret of embalming according to the Ruysch system and reprinted Blumentrost 's study of glandular waters in the Olonets province , not having the rights to such publications [3] .
Published comments on aphorisms of Hippocrates (The Hague, 1767) , in which Sprengel found many borrowings from Gorter’s book [4] .
Died in The Hague [4] .
