Babiy, Boris Musievich

Born into a peasant family. Father, before the revolution - he was a laborer, since 1932 he was chairman of the collective farm.

In 1931-1932 Boris Babiy is a Komsomol activist, cell secretary in his native village, then in Kazatin .

At the beginning of 1932, the leadership of the district and the editorial board of the Collective Labor newspaper (Ukrainian: “Collective Work” ) sent the 18-year-old Komsomolets Boris Babiy to courses of newspaper workers at the Kiev Regional Committee of the CPSU (B.). Since September 1932 he is a literary worker, and then executive secretary of the editorial office of the Kazatinsky District Collective Labor newspaper. In 1933-1934 he studied at the Komsomol branch of the All-Ukrainian Communist Institute of Journalism in Kharkov .

In 1934-1935 - executive secretary and head of the editorial department of the regional newspaper Pogranichnaya Zvezda in the city of Mogilev-Podolsky, Vinnitsa region.

Then in 1935-1936 he studied at the Kharkov All-Ukrainian Communist Institute of Soviet Construction and Law.

In 1936-1940 he continued his studies at the Law Faculty of Kiev State University . In 1939 he joined the CPSU (b).

From 1939 to 1940 he worked as a prosecutor of the criminal justice department of the prosecutor's office of the Ukrainian SSR.

Member of World War II. In the years 1940-1947. military service in the Soviet army (including from June 1941 to June 1942 and from September 1943 to May 1945 - in the army on the South-Western and 2nd Ukrainian fronts ).

After the end of the war in 1945-1947. worked in the military prosecutor's office of the Kiev military district. In 1947-1949 - Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Kiev .

From 1949 to 1969 - academic secretary, senior researcher, department head and deputy head. sector of state and law of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In 1950, he was awarded the degree of candidate of legal sciences. In 1963 - Doctor of Law. In 1967, Professor Babi was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1968 - member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences, academician-secretary of the Department of History, Philosophy and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

From 1969 to 1974 - Deputy Director and Head of the Department of the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 1972 he was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Since 1974 - Director of the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine .

Since 1988 - Advisor to the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. He was a member of many international and domestic organizations, including The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, the Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO , etc.

The author of more than 290 scientific papers. As an author, editor-in-chief, member of the editorial board, he took part in the creation of many collective works, in particular:

For the collective work “History of State and Law of the Ukrainian SSR” (K., 1976), the supervisor of studies, the responsible editor and author of which was B. M. Babiy, in 1981 was awarded the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in the field of science and technology.
