Destroyer-14

Destroyer -14 - Greek destroyer , famous in the First Balkan War . Laid down in 1884 at the AG Vulcan Stettin plant ( Germany ). The fourth of a series of destroyers of the same type (other vessels of the series: destroyer-11 , destroyer-12 , destroyer-13 , destroyer-15 , destroyer-16 ). Launched in 1885 . In the same year came into operation. He took part in the Greek-Turkish war of 1897 . Together with the ship "Pineos" in early May 1897 captured Turkish transport with soldiers and ammunition on board. In 1905, it was refurbished in Piraeus . A second boiler was installed on the vessel, a second chimney was installed, speed was increased and weapons were improved.

With the beginning of the Balkan Wars, on November 8, 1912, under the command of Navy lieutenant Periklis Argiropoulos, a Turkish gunboat Trabzon was sunk by a torpedo in the bay of the town of Kidonies Ayvalik . This was the second such success of the Greek destroyers after the destroyer 11 sank the Turkish battleship Feth-i-Bulent at the port of the Macedonian capital .
