Geography
Located about 28 km northeast of the administrative center of the department, the city of Colonia del Sacramento and 164 km northwest of the capital, Montevideo . The city is located at the intersection of roads No. 50 and No. 22, 15 km north of the national highway No. 1. The absolute height is 73 meters above sea level [1] .
History
The village on this site was founded in 1892. June 17, 1919 received the status of the village ( Pueblo ) with the name Joaquin-Suarez. On August 27, 1959 it was renamed Tarariras and received the status of a small town ( Villa ) [2] . November 7, 1969 received the status of a city ( Ciudad ) [3] .
