Attack

On October 8, 2009 at 8:30 local time, a suicide bomber in a Toyota Corolla passenger car detonated an explosive device near the wall of the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan .

After an explosion in July 2008, Indian authorities claimed that Pakistani inter-agency intelligence was involved in the attack. After the explosion in October 2009, relations between the two countries strained again. According to analysts, the attack on the Indian embassy by militants is aimed at creating a negative relationship between Afghanistan, India and Pakistan.

Results

The attack killed 17 people, another 83 were injured of varying severity [1] . All the dead were citizens of Afghanistan (of the wounded, three were employees of the embassy’s security service [2] ; in addition, the official statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Afghanistan reports that two of the dead and 13 wounded were members of the Afghan police, the rest were civilians) [3 ]

Soon after the explosion, the Taliban radical Sunni group claimed responsibility for the attack. On their website it was written that the suicide bomber was Khalid.
