History
The presence on the territory of the commune of two menhirs , one set on land, the other on Cape Beg May, indicates a person has lived here since the end of the Bronze Age or the beginning of the Iron Age .
In the Middle Ages Fuenan was the possession of Baron Fuenan; The residence of Chatelain was also located here.
During the French Revolution , an event occurred in the commune that went down in history as the Nedlek affair, or the Fuenan uprising. In December 1790, a local resident Alain Nedlek was elected a secular judge, but he did not accept new revolutionary laws and refused to fulfill his duty until he received an appointment from King Louis XVI . In July 1791, Alain Nedlek was arrested, and after some time fled. He gathered a group of his supporters, and riots broke out in Fuengan. One hundred and fifty national guardsmen and fifteen gendarmes were sent from Camper to suppress them. At the approaches to Fuenan they were attacked by rebels, but were quickly defeated and scattered around the neighborhood. Forty-three people, including the instigator of the rebellion, were captured and taken to Quimper. Alain Nedlek was guillotined, and his associates were acquitted and released home. The Fuenan uprising is considered one of the events that triggered the Shuang uprising.
