Lieutenant General Aviation

Established by the Decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 7, 1940 "On the establishment of military ranks for the higher commanders of the Red Army" and "On the establishment of military ranks for the highest commanders of the Navy", due to the increase in the numerical strength of the air forces in the Red Army and RKKFF AF USSR , later in the SA and Navy.

Excluded by the Law of the Russian Federation of February 11, 1993 No. 4455-I “On Military Duty and Military Service”, according to which V / Z were not included in the list of military and ship ranks and senior aviation officers of the Air Force and Navy began to assign the military rank of general Lieutenant (without adding the word "aviation").

From 1935 to 1940, the rank of division commander (aviation) corresponded to the lieutenant general of aviation . But today, the rank of Lieutenant General of Aviation (Air Force) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is equivalent to the rank of Major General (two star general; RP-7 ^[1] ) in several armies of NATO countries .
