Nikolai Vasilyevich Dosekin was born in the family of a famous Russian photographer, owner of photographic workshops in Kharkov and Moscow - Vasily Sergeyevich Dosekin (1829-1900) [7] [8] .

Two of the four children of V. S. Dosekin became artists [9] [10] - Nikolay, who took private lessons from Kharkov artist E. E. Schrader and his younger brother Sergey (1869–1916), who graduated from the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1894 [ 11] .

From 1879 to 1894, Nikolai Dosekin moved to Moscow, where he studied drawing and painting in the landscape workshop of A. A. Kiselev [1] . In 1896 he left Russia and until 1918 [12] lives in Paris, continuing his education and visiting the workshop of Elizaveta Kruglikova [13] .

Since 1888, the exhibitor of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions . Exhibited at the XVI - XXV, XXVII and XXVIII exhibitions of the Partnership [2] . In 1900 he became a full member of the Partnership, but in 1901 he left the Partnership, speaking out against the unequal status of young artists and, together with A. M. Vasnetsov , S. A. Vinogradov , V. V. Perepletchikov , initiated the creation of his own exhibition association, which , according to the number of its members, received the name "36 artists" [3] [4] .

Having conducted two exhibitions in 1901–1903, the Moscow association “36 artists” and the Petersburg association “World of Art” created in 1903 the Union of Russian Artists , of which Dosekin became one of the founders [5] .

In 1918, N. V. Dosekin returned to Russia and from 1919 to 1921 headed the artists' cooperative in Rostov-on-Don. From 1922 to 1925, an employee of the Moscow Handicraft Museum [12] .

He was buried at the Donskoy Cemetery in Moscow.
