Biography
Born on November 9 ( November 22 according to a new style) in 1914 in the village of Tsaritsyn Kut of the Russian Empire, now the village of Primorskoye, Vasilyevsky District, Zaporizhia Region of Ukraine [1] , in a working class family. Ukrainian .
He graduated from seven-year school, then rabfak .
In 1934, from the 2nd year of the Kiev Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture, he was sent to the Kachinsky school of military pilots with a Komsomol ticket, which he graduated in 1936. He participated in the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1940.
Member of the Great Patriotic War from its first day. Participated in the defense of Odessa. Then he participated in the defense of Sevastopol, the battles in the Caucasus, in the Novorossiysk-Taman offensive operation, in the fighting to seize and hold the Kerch bridgehead, and liberate southern Ukraine.
The squadron commander of the 40th Aviation Regiment of the diving bombers, captain Alexander Gnedoi, by mid-October 1944, made 140 sorties, sank a destroyer, a submarine, 6 barges, transport and a minesweeper of the enemy, blew up a railway bridge, destroyed 15 aircraft on the ground and many other military equipment the enemy.
After the war, he continued to serve in the USSR Navy. In 1951 he graduated from the Naval Academy. Since 1953 he worked there as a teacher. Since 1960, Colonel Gnedoi is in stock.
He lived in Leningrad . He worked as a senior engineer at the All-Union Design Institute of Electrotechnical Production Technology.
He died on April 14, 1983, was buried in the Northern cemetery of St. Petersburg.
Rewards
- By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 6, 1945, for the exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown, Captain Gnedy Alexander Alekseevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 6000).
