Orchestra History

The first composition of the orchestra was formed in August 2004 by multi-instrumentalist Artemy Vorobyov. The reason for the creation of the team was the acquaintance of Vorobyov with the Scottish musicians Nairn Pipe Band from the city of Nairn [2] . The future pipe major Vorobyov, specializing in the Scottish bagpipe , as well as traditional wind instruments of the peoples of the world (Bulgarian guide, Armenian duduk , bamboo flute di , Kursk horn , ocarina , etc.), gathered a group of 8 people. Later, the orchestra expanded to 12 musicians.

2005 was marked by the participation of the orchestra in the main ethno-music festivals in Moscow and the Moscow region. Until 2007, the team was engaged in creating a repertoire, actively organizing performances and theatrical shows, including together with the Scottish dance school Shady Glen and the club of historical reconstruction "Silver Wolf". The orchestra began to gain popularity, to take part in corporate events (including in the Cup of Russia in equestrian polo in 2007, at the premiere of the film " Antidur ", at the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Masters. Equipment and Art of the Russian Builder of the 15th-19th Centuries" in Museum-Reserve " Kolomenskoye " at the presentation of Land Rover cars).

Subsequently, the leadership of the Central Orchestra of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation received a proposal to create joint music programs. Thanks to mutually beneficial cooperation, the Moscow Piper Orchestra took part in the gala evening dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the award ceremony of the Andrew the First-Called Fund in the State Kremlin Palace , as well as the solemn celebration of the 245th anniversary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

In September 2007, the Moscow Piper Orchestra took part in city programs as part of the Kremlin Brass Zorya International Brass Band Festival, and since 2009 the band has been a regular participant in the Spasskaya Tower Festival [3] [4] . In the same year, the First Moscow International Bagpipe Festival of Bagpipers Russian Bagpipe Forum was held, the music producer of which was Artemy Vorobyov [5] [6] , as well as the Ode to the World festival, in which the Vorobyov band and the Pipers Orchestra of Great Britain performed the song “ Amazing Grace” " [7] .

The Moscow Piper Orchestra collaborates with ethno-pop singer Varvara [8] , a military band of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and is involved in charity work (the group gave concerts at the N. N. Blokhin Research Institute of Pediatric Oncology, as well as at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital).

In 2018, the Moscow Piper Orchestra performed in the 1/8 finals of the KVN Premier League in the UK freestyle music freestyle [9] .

Creativity

In addition to traditional ethnic and military music, the Moscow Bagpipe Orchestra performs modern melodies arranged for bagpipes. In the repertoire of the orchestra there are such compositions as “ We Will Rock You ” by Queen , “ I went crazy ” by Tatu and others.

In addition, the musicians perform compositions with Russian national flavor, including such well-known folk songs as “Walking along the Don”, “From the Island to the Rod”, “ The Moon Shines ” and “Kamarinskaya”. In 2011, the orchestra recorded the “Old Russian Set” - a large-scale work compiled from folk songs of the western regions of Russia [10] .

In addition to the musical component itself, the Moscow Piper Orchestra brings elements of the show to its performances. Most often, the performance opens with a marching parade and movement through the auditorium or platform, which ends with the construction of a piper orchestra into a figure. Depending on the site, the figures may be different: a row, two rows, a “chessboard”, “ring”, “thistle” or “crescent”.
